4WD capability

Prado offers advanced full-time 4WD utility for outstanding on-road and off-road performance at all times.

Every new Prado has full-time four wheel drive (4WD). Using an efficient motor switching method, it makes changing between low and high ratios a simple matter of turning a dial on your dash--and locking the centre differential for that extra bit of driving force is just as easy.
A torque sensing LSD (Torsen® LSD) in the centre differential provides optimum torque distribution between front and rear wheels, providing better traction and control during acceleration and turning, and, just as importantly, increasing your enjoyment of the drive.

Multi-terrain Select (MTS)

The Prado's Multi-Terrain Select System means almost any challenging off-road scenario can be handled with confidence.

With the Multi-Terrain Select system (MTS) on board, you can negotiate any terrain from mud and sand to rocks and moguls, knowing you’ve got the right amount of grip for the conditions.
MTS is a ground-breaking feature that regulates wheel slippage and automatically provides the maximum amount of traction for any given off-road scenario - all by pushing a button on the steering wheel.

Multi-Terrain Select is standard on the ZR and Kakadu off-road pack only.

Multi-Terrain Monitor^

Four onboard cameras* observe road conditions around the vehicle, providing a wide field of vision.

The Prado’s Multi-Terrain Monitor feeds images from 4 onboard cameras to Prado’s EMV, showing the ground conditions around the vehicle and allowing you to check blind spots, reveal hidden terrain, and confirm your vehicle’s position and clearance. It features a versatile display mode which, at the push of a button, can switch between views.

*Available on the Kakadu and ZR off-road pack only. The Cruise pack on ZR & Kakadu offers a similar system in the wide view front and left side monitor with 3 in-built cameras. ^The front, side and rear cameras do not provide a comprehensive view of the area surrounding the vehicle, and should only be used as an aid for viewing when parking/driving.

Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS)

Advanced suspension control system providing uncompromised performance both on-road and off-road.

The new Prado offers electronically modulated KDSS, a state-of-the-art suspension system. Off-road, it provides generous suspension travel allowing the body to remain stable on terrain. On-road KDSS reduces the roll and tilt in tight corners and absorbs minor bumps to create a smoother and more comfortable ride.

KDSS is standard on VX and Kakadu models.

CRAWL Control technology

An off-road cruise control system, CRAWL Control takes the fear out of tackling steep and slippery terrain.

CRAWL Control helps you manage difficult off-road conditions. It's an advanced technology that allows you to take your foot off the pedals and concentrate on the steering while CRAWL Control maintains a slow and steady pace.

CRAWL is standard on the ZR and Kakadu off-road pack only.

Adaptive Variable Suspension system

A suspension system that has been built for outstanding ride comfort, handling and stability.

The Prado’s Adaptive Variable Suspension system with rear electronically-controlled air suspension provides a comfortable ride tailored to suit driving conditions and driver preferences. The system also maintains optimal vehicle position when cornering and provides cruising stability in off-road conditions.

Home theatre on wheels

The all new Prado's premium entertainment system works like a moving home theatre.

A truly world-class entertainment system is built into Kakadu with entertainment areas to let front and rear passengers enjoy their own zoned activity. The Kakadu model has a Rear Seat Entertainment system that plays DVDs on a remote controlled large 9-inch drop-down screen with powerful 5.1-channel surround sound and has auxiliary inputs for portable media devices like your video camera and gaming consoles.

Intelligent flexibility

A spacious interior with power-operated stowing and reclining means Prado easily adapts to suit your needs.
The roomy 5-door Prado features a wide variety of seating configurations for 2 to 7 people (limit of 5 people in standard GX – 7 seat optional). Power operated third-row seats fold down flat and a sliding function on second-row seats allow for ease of stowing and reclining on Kakadu and VX. Ergonomic design, a steering wheel with electronic tilt and wider door openings all provide superior flexibility to cater for changing needs.

The all new Prado is imbued with generous features providing a new level of luxury and comfort.
Prado’s luxury shines through with an impressive array of features including electric+ and heated front seats*, 3-zoned air conditioning^, dusk-sensing headlights * and rain-sensing wipers*. With Smart Entry and Start you can lock, unlock and start the car with a touch of the door handle or start button when carrying the key in your pocket or bag.

Multi-Information Display & Electro Multi-Vision screen

The high-tech, driver-friendly information display lets you see what's happening all around your car.
Standard on the GXL, VX and SX models the 4.2" TFT colour Multi-Information Display shows the outside air temperature, trip information and Rear View Camera vision. Whilst the Kakadu and ZR models feature an Electro Multi-Vision touch screen which additionally displays the DVD based Satellite Navigation, Rear Seat Entertainment control* and Multi-Camera vision.

Advanced technology for precision driving in difficult conditions.
For enhanced safety, all Prados come complete with Toyota’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC). VSC automatically adjusts engine output and brake force when the vehicle experiences understeer and oversteer skidding while cornering. TRC improves your car’s contact with the road in poor driving conditions when you're accelerating, cornering or during a standing start.

AB-i: Active Braking with intelligence

Prado's threefold braking system ensures you stop quickly and stay in control when it really counts.
The Prado’s Active Braking with Intelligence helps the driver with braking, by generating a larger braking force if the brake pedal is suddenly and rapidly pressed. Prado’s AB-i system incorporates Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and is standard across the range.

Downhill Assist Control & Hill-Start assist Control

Two advanced technologies for maintaining low speed on descents and ensuring the smoothest hill starts.
Downhill Assist Control (available on automatic models only) automatically controls the brakes to maintain a constant low speed when descending slopes helping reduce wheel lock, while, Hill-start Assist Control makes rollbacks a thing of the past by automatically applying the brakes for approx 5 seconds when starting off on an incline.

Front and rear parking sensors^

For safer and easier parking – helping to avoid expensive scrapes.
The new-generation Prado’s front and rear parking sensors make reversing and parking safer and easier. With up to 8 sensors (4 front and 4 rear), they detect nearby obstacles and alert you with a buzzer and visual warning on the Multi-Information Display to help you avoid those expensive dings. The 8-sensor system is standard on VX, Kakadu & ZR models only. The GXL & SX offer 4 rear parking sensors only.

Rear View Camera^

For improved safety and visibility when reversing.
The Prado’s Rear View Camera provides a wide area of vision immediately behind the vehicle, which is displayed on the Multi-Information Display or Electro Multi-Vision (EMV) screen while reversing. This means you can easily see children, animals, low walls or shopping trolleys that are close to the back of the car.

Standard on all models except GX.
^Rear View Camera is designed as a driver assist device only and should not be used as a substitute for skilled driving and safe parking practices. The area into which the vehicle is to be reversed/parked must be visually monitored by the driver while parking.

7 SRS airbags

The Prado is built to protect with front, side and curtain airbags.
Every Prado is equipped with 7 SRS airbags that help shield the driver and passengers in the event of a collision. Both front seats are protected with front and side airbags plus a driver's knee airbag to shield the driver’s legs. Meanwhile, curtain shield airbags cover all rows of seats protecting everyone inside.

Pre-Collision Safety System*

Prado's Pre-Collision Safety System takes proactive measures to avoid and reduce collision, damage and injury.
Using the millimetre wave radar in the grille, the system calculates the distance and relative speed of the vehicle in front and will warn you if an accident is likely – so you can slow down. If an accident becomes unavoidable the system snaps into action – the brake is applied and the front seatbelts are retracted – reducing the impact on the car and the people inside it.

Available on Kakadu and ZR optional Cruise pack only.

Radar Cruise Control*

Radar Cruise Control is cruise control that keeps a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front.
It automatically detects traffic in your path and ensures that the Prado maintains a preset distance, according to your settings. It slows down and accelerates as required and reverts back to your original cruising speed, when the vehicle in front of you moves out of your lane.

Available on Kakadu and ZR optional Cruise pack only.
