Scheduled Servicing
Why time is more important than distance.
 |
When you look into your Toyota Warranty and Service Handbook you'll notice that service intervals are both distance and time based.
This is because even if you haven't clocked up enough kilometres to make the next service interval, the amount of time between services means items like oil and filters may be nearing the end of their performance life.
More importantly, vehicles subject to extremes of driving conditions such as dusty roads or constant towing require more regular servicing. |
Regular maintenance is critical for city vehicles, especially because heavy traffic driving over small distances can cause sludging of engine oil.
If your vehicle is left too long between services, sludgy oil will reduce the effectiveness of vital lubrication, cleaning and cooling of the engine, which is needed to maintain engine performance. So, its important to at least have your oil and filter changed regularly.
To ascertain your vehicle's servicing interval requirements, it is best to check the Warranty and Service Handbook provided with your vehicle. Also, discuss the 'typical' sort of driving you'll be doing with your Toyota Service Manager, and he or she will advise how regularly your car will need servicing.
Note that effective from 2005, within the first 3 months or 5,000 kms from delivery of your new Toyota vehicle, Southside Toyota will be pleased to offer you a 'Complimentary Vehicle Inspection'.
 |
Southside Toyota will respond to any queries you may have about your vehicle and make sure you are comfortable and familiar with your new Toyota. This inspection is complimentary and there is no requirement for Engine Oil or Oil Filter change at this time. Please refer to the rear of the Inspection voucher (which can be found at the front of your Warranty & Service Handbook) for a comprehensive description of General & Engine inspection items. |
Please refer to the matrix and information below for recommended Service Intervals broken down by current model.

Such conditions could include any or all of the following:
- Driving on rough, muddy or snow-melted roads.
- Driving on dusty roads.
- Towing trailers, caravans or boats, or using a car top carrier.
- Repeated short trips (less than 8 km) in freezing conditions.

What to do at the scene of an accident
- Check that you, your passengers and those in
other accident vehicles are not injured. If there
are injuries call an Ambulance (000).
- Turn off the ignitions of all vehicles as a fire precaution.
- Call the police if there are any injuries, or there is major damage and the vehicles are undriveable.
- If vehicles are driveable, move away from traffic to a side street to exchange details. If not, activate warning lights (if workable) and wait in a safe place until police arrive.
- Complete Accident Details Report, Other Driver's Details and Insurance Request Form and provide a copy to your insurer.

Understanding Your Insurance Policy
Welcome to the world of 'fine print'.
It's only when you have to make a claim that you discover, with car insurance, like everything else in life, you only 'get what you pay for'.
The cheapest premium may also mean the insurer will insist on any repairs being done as cheaply as possible. That could mean using non-genuine parts which may be of inferior quality, or not Australian Design compliant, or even recycled parts.
This is exactly why reading the fine print is vital. So phone your insurer or talk to us. And make absolutely sure your policy states that genuine parts will be used to return your vehicle to a condition which meets ADR Australian Design Rules compliance.
Maintaining Your Toyota
Apart from scheduled servicing, does my vehicle need other maintenance?
It's always important to listen to your car and deal with any problems immediately. Be on alert for changes in performance, sounds and visual tip-offs that indicate a service or repairs may be needed.
Some other clues to look for include engine stumbling, strange engine noises, a leak under the vehicle, a change in noise from the exhaust, spongy feeling brake or clutch pedals, high engine temperature, or if the vehicle steering pulls to one side. If you do experience any of these early warning signs, make sure that you have Southside Toyota inspect your vehicle at the earliest possible opportunity.
